  • State religion gives +1 culture!

Guess who is not reading the manual! It says "Cities with state religion get +1 culture points"! So grab an yearly religion an no need for those stupid obelisks neither a rush for the Stonehenge!

PS. Does someone reads the manuals carefully?

Stonehedge is still worth it for the GP generation. Plus, religion doesn't spread to fast. Stonehedge pops those borders out 10 turns after you found a new city.

They don't always spread on their own. To be sure you either need Monotheism, then either miss a turn and switch to Organised Religion (expensive if on units & settlers) or (I think) Meditation then build Monasteries, then build Missionaries. Anyway, The Henge is as much about the shrine as the obelisks.

And yes, there's a lot to be said for reading the manual. Especially before posting

Stone Hidge IS a super obelisk.

Religion is kind of slow to spread on its own. It usually follows trade routes, and it spreads slower among cities that already have a religion than than those without.

You still get 1 culture for a city with any religion & 5 in the founding city of any religion. The state religion +1 is on top of it.

So, try to found at least one of the three early religions if possible.

Actually here is how it works:
All religions give +1 culture (+5 in the holy city).
Having a state religion eliminates the culture from non-state religions.

If you have multiple religions, having a state religion only hurts your culture.

But if you only have the one religion the state religion will help it spread (I think, or is that org.religion specifically?)

That's good to know, Blake. I've got 3 state religions (for the first time ever), and I didn't realize that having a state religion in this case might not be beneficial.

Here's my question on religion. How random is the spread of religion? Some games, I found a religion, and next thing I know, 25% of the world is following it with relatively minimal effort on my part. Other times, it's the opposite...like my current game. Hinduism is my state religion, and I've sent out probably 6 missionaries (it's still relatively early-mid game), and yet the vast majority of the world is Buddhist compared to my 8% in Hinduism.

Is it totally random, or did the AI who founded Buddhism do nothing but spam missionaries?
