Why would you want the ai to play in a sub-optimal way? I would prefer if the ai tried to win the game at all costs regardless of what happened in real life. There is no gameplay advantage to what the ai does.

No, there is no gmaeplay advantage to what the AI opponent does, but it does force the human player to make choices, and sometimes hard choices, with regards to how he relates (or doesn't relate) to the AI.

The fact that these choices involve something that people are familiar with in real life adds to the flavor of the game, IMO, and for many people I am sure, makes the game more engaging, and more fun.

And I am part of the "most people" that you refer to, but unlike some, my world history does not end on September 10, not to say that the hatred of some groups of radical Muslims was not quite obvious before that date.

That's true. Arabs have been trying to conquer and subjugate Europe relentlessly for about thirteen-hundred years.

              Thanks.
Besides that, may I suggest to not blame the muslims in general for 9-11, and in fact maybe we christians should just keep quiet when the topic is religious hate. Unfortunately our hands aren't clean either

I'd rather say we spend our energy in telling people about the gospel then aiming our arrows on other religions. I hope the muslims will believe that Allah sent Jesus to renew us and to forgive us. They already believe Jesus is their 2nd major prophet, so close! Let's keep on hoping that we can join together soon!

And get rid of all the haters on both sides.
              Remember, Jesus didn't say:

Go ye therefore, and teach all nations and yell at them when disagree with you and make sure they'll live exactly like you do and if not, hate them and burn them down, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you.

Nope, he just only said that we should spread the good news! Nothing more, nothing less. Oh, and he said that we should love our enemies. In fact that means you shouldn't have enemies yourself, but love those who concider you to be an enemy.

In fact that means that christian civs shouldn't be able to declare war

Hey Cyber, you are obviously spinning that drivel for folk who haven't read the Bible. But the 'New' Testament clearly says that anyone who is made aware of the fact that Jesus is the son of God and the Messiah, and then goes on to discredit and disbelieve that notion (as the Koran does very explicitly and at length), it CONDEMNED TO THE WORST KIND OF HELL THERE IS.

this is exactly the downside to including religion in the game. Instead of people talking about it in relation to the game, it becomes an off-topic forum thread about what's right and what's wrong

I'm glad Firaxis put religion into the game -- it makes for a nice dimension.

Well I just wanted to say, although I am no doubt revealing my ignorance, that people weren't always as cotton-candy as they are today. Millions of men have given their lives because they believe this thing, or that thing.

It's a bit sickening to see people creep around, touchy-feely, unable to let go of their hocus-pocus but equally unable to believe in it properly like real men of the past once did.

I sure prefer yucky touchy-feeliness to those that really holds the old fire alive, such as Mr bin Ladin.
Why can't you be a non-conformist just like everybody else?

I don't know what you're talking about; what happened on 9-11?
