  • I wish I had NOT patched to 1.09

The only reason why I did was because techs seemed to bet too easy to get at the later half of the game. I figured that would help, which it did somewhat, but now I have problems with the game that I never had before.ie movies no longer play without lagging, game now slows down in the 1900's and beyond, now slow when closing to desktop...ugggh

Anyone else tired of getting a game that is not finished or full of bugs??

I feel like being one of the first group of people to play a game makes me part of the 'pay to beta team' and i am tired of it.

    Sorry for the rant....

Well the only problem I'm having is that some of my movies are lagging badly. Some work perfectly like "Rock & Roll" while others laaaaaaaaaaag.

I was all excited to see the end movie for Domination and Space Race victories when I first won those ways.... But the movies lagged so bad they were practically frozen and all I had was Audio.

I have a super computer too so there's no excuse for this to be happening.

I should try that fix. Though right now I'm currently playing a huge world map. So I turned down the graphical settings which fixed the stuttering movies. The game still looks pretty damn good with all the graphical settings on low.

I had so many problems with the patch I abandoned it, and have reinstalled the program on both my systems. First time I've dealt with a patch that made the game play worse than it did to begin with (that is, not play at all!).

Since I went to 1.09, I don't get notification of new techs, either researched or goody-hut. The screen with the description and Nimoy's quotes doesn't appear. Is there an option somewhere that enables/disables this screen. Don't remember turning it off myself, but maybe I did accidently.

I think "Allow Sid's tips" and/or "Allow advisors" must be vinked in the option screen.

1.09 did fix the stuttering wondering movies for me. That and the proper Ironworks are the most appreciated fixes in 1.09 for me.

1.09 made videos stutter badly in the early game, then later cause the computer to appear hung for about 2 minutes, then finally, cause a CTD later in the game.

I have ingame AA set to 0 and always have, so that fix won't help me.

My soultion was to turn off movies altogether. Now, not only do I not get wonder movies, I don't even get the popup when I finish a new tech that describes the tech and has Leonard Nimoy narrating.

That was the problem I had when I couldn't get the tech pop ups either. Lucky for me the movies play fine now I have disabled AA and cleared the cache

I'm mildly annoyed that I still get slowdowns with the patch. On my BRAND NEW COMPUTER!

Sorry about that. Overall, though, I do like the game.

I don't know what the deal is but I did not have any problems playing the original game out of the box except for the game play bugs. With the patch my experience is much the same... no problems. Even on a huge map with many civs the game slows down only a little bit near the end. But it's a tolerable slowdown. I did install the Blue Marble mod at the same time I installed the patch. I am seeing some new bugs in the game though like AI units prancing around my territory without a Open Borders agreement and the box asking what tech I want to research pops up and disappears frequently for no reason. Other than that everything is great, and I don't have that powerful of a system. I guess I've been lucky.

It seems to me that the American CD's play out worse than the European DVD ...
