How long do I need to have a Defensive Pact with someone before I can get a Permanent Alliance?

  • #2
It depends purely on how much the AI trusts or needs you. And if the Permanent Alliances option is activated of course
I will never understand why some people on Apolyton find you so clever. You're predictable, mundane, and a google-whore and the most observant of us all know this. Your battles of "wits" rely on obscurity and whenever you fail to find something sufficiently obscure, like this, you just act like a 5 year old. Congratulations, molly.

Well, it's activated, and I have all of the +'s possible except for being at war with the same civ, and only 5 -'s (-4 from border, -1 from trading w/enemies).

Is it actually possible with AI players? I had figured it was a human player only option... not that I have read anything that would actually give me that impression... just have never seen it as an option...

yep AI's will do it. Often they all ally against me . I was really upset the one game I played with it on. I need to mess around with it some more I guess and try to be nicer to AI civs. But for now, I prefer to leave it off.

I was wondering about this myself. I've had the option on, with the required tech, and very pleased AIs (with defensive pact) but I've never even been given the option. This is additionally strange because when a given diplomatic option is available, but the AI doesn't like you enough, the option appears in red (and gives a reason on mouse-over). But I've never even seen the option in *red*

            ???
One of these days I'll make 501 posts, and you won't have to look at my silly little diplomat anymore.

Mustn't both civs have the appropriate tech for that?

I've never seen this come up, and I always enable permanent alliances. Has the patch addressed the issue?

To be clear, I've never even seen it come up in red, like rjwoer.

I've seen it come up, but not with my allys and not when I have a defensive pact.

When it comes up the reason is:
"We havn't had a defensive pact for long enough"

And when we have a defensive pact, it doesn't show up.

I guess it might be something dumb like the two pacts being mutually exclusive (if you have one, you can't have the other), kind of a logic bug.

I have a defensive pact and it shows up red.

Ooooh... could it be that I already won the game?

Is there a way to force it through the worldbuilder? The only diplomacy editing I've been able to figure out is making people like or hate other people a lot.

btw, I thought resources were supposed to be shared under a permanent alliance, but I can still trade resources with him. Hm?

Only Wonder benefits were shared, I thought?

Wonder benefits are shared, as are all known techs and each turn's tech beakers.

Permanant Alliances will only be entered into by the AI if they think they'll gain from it.
