  • 1.09 patch problem

I installed the new patch and was disappointed to get the message "Your system doesn't meet minimum spec.s'" The game still ran but only on low-resolution graphic mode. I uninstalled the game and went back to version 1.00 and it ran fine. The only thing I haven't bothered to do yet is to try to reinstall the patch. Anyone having similar problems - and sorry if there has already been a post on this - I looked.

BTW - My system exceeds minimum specs by a lot and ran fine when version 1.00 was installed. If I can't figure this out I guess I'm stuck with that version if I want to see the cute combat animations.

What graphics card do you have Forwarn?

Edit: Shouldn't your name be spelled Forewarn or even Forewarned? ...but then again, it is your handle after all...

Had to look - computer is fairly new. Looks like "Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 900 with up to 128MB shared video memory" whatever that means. Assuming I'm looking in the right place. Again - game runs fine on version 1.00 at highest settings.

Oh and it's two words, the first of which is for and the second is part of my name.

Well, it looks like you are in the same boat that I was in. I have a relatively new IBM computer, and my graphics card was/is built into the motherboard. I went out and bought a new graphics card (Radeon 9600 All-In-Wonder) and installed it, effectively disabling my built-in video card. The game did run, but I experienced crashes - until I upgraded my RAM to 3 gig (my system can exand to 4 gig). Now there are no problems.

...and yes, I have come to the same conclusion that Civ IV is a MEMORY HOG! There is no way that a game should require 3 gig of memory space....but I guess that is a different story.

Ah, that would explain your handle then. Ok. I would most likely done the same thing in my naming convention as well.

Thanks for the input. But I am still curious why the patch would mess it up. Did the original version of the game run OK for you or did you have problems from the get-go? I didn't and don't have any problems at all (not even a single crash) running the original version of the game on the highest settings. I have never had a game before where the patch makes things worse! But I'm sure it happens.

Actually in the original version, the game ran fine for a few hours before freezing/crashing. After the patch, it loaded faster, but crashed more often - that's why I upgraded my RAM to see what would happen...it's been smooth sailing since.

Oh, and on a side note: Under Options: Place your display settings within the game at its lowest setting - this helped out tremendously.

I don't think the memory is the problem. The game ran fine out of the box on my desktop which is only 1G ram and the Intel GMA 950 similar to the one Forwarn45 has.

I think the problem is with the video cards or maybe the operating system(I'm have Win XP Media Center E 2005). Everyone seems to be having problems with nvidia, geforce, and ATI Radeon graphics. I had numerous problems running on my laptop, which has a radeon card, but when I switched to my desktop (Intel GMA 950) the game ran perfectly. I think the patch is only going to work on certain cards. Sounds like people with the Intel GMA shouldn't download the patch.

Anyone else out there have the game working perfectly in v1.00 without major upgrades? What graphics card?
