  • Explain to me how to read the Miltary advisor?

So I have the military advisor. All I can see out of it is the units that I have. It tells me nothing about other civs or what mine is like compared to anyone elses. Is there something that I am missing? I would love to know where I am at militarily as compared to other civs so I can determine if War is an option.

I notice at the top all other civs that I know and I can click on them but nothing changes on my info screen that I can tell.

    Please help...

How do you use this screen?

Seems like a pretty horrible screen to me. You can I think find out about other people's units to the extent you know about them, but the information is so disaggregated that it is not that useful. Also, can it zoom you to individual units?

I think you can only see enemy units that you're 'aware' of (within visual range of one of your units, or within range of a city that has a religion you have founded - another good reason to get those missionaries out there).

You can click on the map to centre the main window on the unit.

i haven't yet found any of the screens to be of much use.
While there might be a physics engine that applies to the jugs, I doubt that an entire engine was written specifically for the funbags. - Cyclotron - debating the pressing issue of boobies in games.

and am i the only one who can't make heads or tails of the way the graphs are presented? (those large jagged stripes).

I didnt like it in civ3 either.

I always found that the Demographics screen worked best for this. If your last in the Soldiers section then your probably in trouble...

yeah I hate those types of displays, much prefer the simple bar graph. The histogram is a little better for many many nations, but I tend to stick with only 7 civs at a time lately.

The Military Screen is pretty useless IMHO.... I actually did like it in Civ 3. Even if you didn't have a lot of visibility into a rival civ's territory, the advisor used to be able to tell you straight up if a particular civ was stronger or weaker... no trying to figure it out with a bunch of stupid charts.

The second thing that was nice about the Civ 3 advisor was that if you had a spy planted in the rival civ then you could see side-by-side how their military stacked up against yours. I guess the Demographics is a nice way to figure were you generally stand, but sometimes I don't want a general idea. I want to know, can I walk into another country with little resistance?!

Your best bet to see how you stack up against opposing AIs is to go to demographics screen that shows how you rank on various aspects.

It'll tell you how you fare on military. I like how it tells you the average. If you're last, you might want to play catch up.

Military screen is useless. They need to let you select the units the screen displays. It would make upgrading units much easier later in the game.
