My Hard Drive is buzzing like a chainsaw during these huge map games.

That makes me think that amount of RAM has nothing to do with the Crashes to Desktop.

Whatever happened to SmartDrv.exe back in the DOS days?

    Does WindowsXP have something equivalent?

I can almost fry an Egg on my Hard Drive case, it's so hot!

smartdrv was the disk caching utility for DOS.

It was rendered obsolete even back in the Windows 3.1 days. Windows disk read/write operations are always cached.

More physical RAM would help, but not for long. doubling the amount of RAM would probably delay the crashing for 2 or 3 turns. I haven't had the chance to try that out, though.

But of course, this is not right. No game of today should ever require more than 2GB of RAM (or else crashola). It's really something wrong with the game itself. Hope the developers have already noticed and are trying to fix the problem.

I think I have gotten rid of my CTDs, though it will require further testing to be sure (I played over 10 turns without a crash, which has never happened before).

Here is a link the thread post where I discuss what I have done

If there's a senior citizen somewhere who can't pay for her prescription and has to choose between medicine and the rent, that makes my life poorer, even if it's not my grandmother. If there's an Arab American family being rounded up without benefit of an attorney or due process, that threatens my civil liberties.
