  • Name landmark?

I thought I read somewhere that you can name landmarks in Civilization IV, as in Alpha Centauri. However I can't find any option that allows this. Have I just wishfully imagined this feature?

I know it doesn't affect gameplay but I find these kind of features add life to the game and I'd be exceedinly pleased if it is in.

You have the option to name landmark if you are in the strategic layer of the game, i.e. if you zoom out enough so that the buttons on top of the globe change.
The leftmost button there gives you the option to create signs and draw lines.

But, unlike SMAC, the siogns and lines you create aren´t persistent, i.e. they aren´t included in the savegames.
So, if you reload a game all signs and lines you created are gone

Hope they change this in one of the next patches (at least for the signs)

              Naming units

              A related topic.
I have seen reference to named units.

Is this possible? and if: how do I do that?

And will it stick when you reload?

I would really like to name a warrior after my Project Manager, keep him until the end game, and send him to war against the mongols - by himself.

just click on the unit title in the bottom left dialog box when a unit is active. This will pop up a small "rename unit" field where you can type in whatever you want.

Yes, this lasts when you save the game and reopen later to play.

Since patch 1.08/1.09 the unit also keeps its name after upgrading.
Before the patches after upgrading the name would be reset to the standard unit name.

When you push the PRTSCN button the game takes a screen shot and puts it in the screenshots folder in your mygames area, there's a short cut to it in the main civ folder called "_Civ4ScreenShots". You can disable screenshots in the ini, but it's on by default.
