  • Why did my city shrink in size?

I don't have a screen shot just after it happened, this is many turns after it happened. I managed to get a city up to size 21, my highest yet. But then it shrank to 19. And then finally to 18- what you see on the screenshot. Even at 21 I had a surplus of food. I should note I'm pretty sure I built the wonder that adds +1 to city population. Is it possible when that expired my city dropped in popultion? But that still doesn't explain why it dropped 2 more points.

One thing I am happy about is the production in this screen shot. My best productive city yet- it helps ironworks is working. It's kind of funny how the production will go up and down though. A couple turns later the production dropped into the 120's. I think I may have been a we love the king day in this shot. I'm not sure, as I wasn't paying close enough attention to my city micromanagement.

One more thing, I did have 3 angry workers in the bottome right. But after I completed Hollywood they went away (or maybe they went away when the population dropped). But even with those guys, my food was still in a surplus. But I think that may have been the cause somehow. I'm not sure.

If you're talking about the hanging gardens which add +1 pop and +1 health to all cities it doesn't expire.

Usually that has to do with overflow from a previous production and not an actual change in production per turn.

What would have happened is three of the worker specialists would have worked the ocean tiles to cover for their lazy, rioting bretheren. :P

Were you at war or was there a barbarian sea unit in the vicinity of your city causing your sea squares to be abandoned?

My first guess would be that your city was unhealthy or you had unhappy citizens, but this doesn't appear to be the case...

Do you have the 1.09 patch? It is possible that the original game had an issue with this...

I actually did have 3 unhappy citizens (can't see it here as it was about 50 turns ago). But I'm pretty sure I still had a food surplus.

Not that big a deal. But I kind of miss the civ2 days of having huge magnificant cities. I want a size 30 city

I have had size 23 cities, but 19+ can get to be a drag due to war weariness -- and that experience was on Warlord!

Did you have a trade deal that was cancelled? Happened to me, and I ddi not notice the small warning on the left hand side, suddenly my biggest cities were loosing population...

I've had that happen a few times due to circumstances. Loss of a trade deal might cost you a luxury or a foodsource, resulting in a loss of a worker or excess food consumption. Sometimes a luxury becomes obsolete with the same results, and with the right improvement, whales provide 1 health as well as one happiness (both of which you'll lose once it becomes obsolete).

                My capital is size 32.

Granted, I'm playing on Settler while I'm learning the game. =)
