Movies freeze

I see a lot of people have trouble with crashes. My problem is that the game freezes whenever a wonder/religion movie starts. Then I have to reboot. This also happens after I installed the patch. I've got an ATI 9800pro.

Please help.

If you go to your Civ install folder, you'll see a shortcut to Civ4Config. Open this and look for

; Set to 1 for no in-game movies
NoMovies = 0

set this to 1, and see if it helps.

Thanks, that seems to work.... But I'm gonna miss seeing those movies... What's weird is that they freeze most of the time, not every time. So I would like to find out why it happens. Have upgraded the bink.dll and python.dll and all new drivers, but nothing helps.

The movie issues seem to be a pretty widespread thing, so your best bet is probably just to kill them for now and see if Firaxis can do anything with them

All of the Bink videos stutter like crazy for me, before and after the patch :\

I just got a new 6600GT card and now both CIV IV and GTA SA works perfectly. I had a lot of problems with both games with my old 9800pro. No more ATI ever for me.

After some more fiddling, my wonder movies are working just fine with my GF4mx

It's not so much that ATI cards are bad....their drivers just leave quite a bit to be desired.
