Get real. I was a shield fan-boy from the first release of civ. I can just change with the times and appreciate the merits of a new concept
    Haven't been here for ages....

Actually it is production, it doesn't matter so much by what it is represented. Whether it is represented by shields, hammers or cogwheels. It is just an image to represent something abstract: Production.

However I think hammers or cog wheels are better appropiate to represent production than shields.

Hammer Pros: Makes more sense; cutting trees gives you hammers; hammers can be converted into research or culture, not just gold.

Shield Pros: Blue shields are purty; shields are more versatile, you can switch productions and convert shields to whatever you switch to.

"If there's a child on the south side of Chicago who can't read, that matters to me, even if it's not my child. If there's a senior citizen somewhere who can't pay for her prescription and has to choose between medicine and the rent, that makes my life poorer, even if it's not my grandmother. If there's an Arab American family being rounded up without benefit of an attorney or due process, that threatens my civil liberties. It's that fundamental belief -- I am my brother's keeper, I am my sister's keeper -- that makes this country work." - Barack Obama

I don't care if it's hammers or shields... can't they just work together instead of fighting each other?

And why is there no shield-mod yet?
This space is empty... or is it?

              SMAC used minerals.
Why can't you be a non-conformist just like everybody else?

I normally like traditional civ stuff (like city upkeep at the beginning of the turn which patch 1.09 screwed up ). But I'm okay with hammers over shields.

I think we can all agree that shields are obsolete

Ever since Civ 1, I've never understood why the production symbol was a shield. Now that it's not, I've thought hammer was the logical choice. Albeit I might occasionally refer to them as shields out of habit, I like the hammers better.
