Yes, cottages do rock and ANOTHER thing that automated workers love to do is to find the nearest cottage that's been nice brewing into a town and snap down another farm! NOOOO!!

I just had a game where I had the workers on manual until I conquered the Chinese, and with 10 cities it was just way too much. As soon as I automated them they replaced fully developed towns with Farms! That city had 7 flood-plain squares and two grain resources, what were they thinking! It had all the food it needed!
Man, I wish we had the fine-tuned control over the worker script like we did in SMAC. For me it would be no-replace & no-chops, with a hammer and commerce preference.

the only time u should automate is "blazing" games, and hitting "n" after railroad.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What the hell is this SMAC I keep hearing about? I can't figure it out. It's not a civilization game, not alpha centauri, not colonization. What is it?
Automated workers seem to build a lot of cottages by the way. I haven't seem them replace full towns with farms yet. It would indeed suck if they did such a thing.
If you automate workers from the start I doubt they'll do that though. They'll just build a farm to begin with
