    anyone played with these on?

I just did. A very boneheaded thing to do. Basically what it means is all the ai's ally against you, and you have no hope of allying with anyone. Real fun. Even before they allied, I was getting attacked by everybody. I guess that's what happens when you disable all victory options except score, and play the maximum number of civs on a standard map.

Looks like I'm going to lose another game. I seem to be getting worse at this game, not better. That's 2 games in a row I lost. I never lost any of my early games.

So anyways, when you are playing for score, all of their scores are added together. No way I can beat all 3 civilizations scores added together. And since I can't ally with anyone... I haven't actually lost. But I'm close to the year 1900. Doesn't seem to be much hope of winning.

    I just love such posts.

Every single time I played with Permanent Alliances on, I ended up allying with someone and winning the game.

Learn to play the game before posting such crap on the forum. Jeez.

      You basically need religious allys.

Yeah, or adopt freedom of religion - this should be sufficient with most, as long as you have their favourite civic(s) adopted.

He only needs a DECENT ally
I will never understand why some people on Apolyton find you so clever. You're predictable, mundane, and a google-whore and the most observant of us all know this. Your battles of "wits" rely on obscurity and whenever you fail to find something sufficiently obscure, like this, you just act like a 5 year old. Congratulations, molly.

I've had it on for a couple of games, but nobody ever created any alliances
This space is empty... or is it?

I have not turned it on because I am still determined to figure out a way to win a conquest only victory condition game on a standard sized map in the time allotted (without playing noble or below).

I'm assuming a permanent alliance would preclude me from destroying my ally in the end.

why the hell you think I'm posting here you *******!!

Or do I have to beat diety level before I can post here. I post here asking for advice, and I get slammed for it. WTF!!

I challenge anyone to make alliances in the game I was in. With all the victory options turned off, the ai was very aggressive and demanding. No one liked me. Actually that's not true. I was in a friendly/pleased state with a few civs. But even they refused to do permanent alliance (the option was red). And I was free religion at the time.

Don't get so upset by it. In every post you are going to have at least 2-3 ****heads who's answer to everything is "learn to play the game".

                  Just ignore them.

in any case, I don't think I'll be playing with those options next time. Too many civs on the same continent (with no peaceful victory options) means you will be getting attacked one after the other.

This setting I think is more for scenarios. I loaded up the desert war scenario last night. Still haven't played it. I'm not sure I like the map. The allied countries don't seem to start with many cities. I guess I'll play the English.

You really have to nurture a relationship with one (or more) of the AIs through most of the game to get a Permanent Alliance once they become available. I always play with this option "on", and have ended up with an alliance in two out of three games that I've played that far.

                      Just takes some effort.

But I can see where you might have problems if you have a) too many Civs on one continent and b) no peaceful victory conditions turned on (which means you need to be aggressive most of the game).

You were specifically NOT asking for advice.

Your post was a flame along the lines of OMG THE PERMANENT ALLIANCES SUCK AND ARE BROKEN

If you asked for advice you would get it. If you come flaming, then you get an adequate response.

I read his post as more asking for advice than flaming permanent alliances.

Your posts, however, are inflammatory; at least to this impartial observer.

Dis didn't start flaming... you were the first person to start with that crap.

So he doesn't like a feature in the game? That's his opinion. You don't have to rip him for it and start a flame war. And yes... YOU started it.

Dis: My advice would be to try and found a religion and spread it early in the game. If you can get AI civ's with the same religion as you, they will be more friendly to you, and thus, more likely to join an Alliance.

Also, start trying to get open borders as soon as you can. After you make contact, every turn you should try and make a treaty for open borders until you succeed. Then, spread the religion and try to trade if you can. Trade, religion, and open borders over time will make AI civs like you more.
To us, it is the BEAST.
