  • New Resource Problem, anyone else have issue with?

Ok I just discovered Oil. And lucky me, I only get one in my rather expansive Roman empire...

    And the real kicker?

Its is under a PRE-EXISTING city....
Which means I dont seem to get it at all!

    Does that seem right?
I don't understand why I would be able to drill for oil if that is the only place I can get it.. ( I am working on buttering up the Americans... They have 3 sources, (only one off shore) but having discovered the tech yet...

Shouldn't I automatically get the resource if it appears under a city? Or at least be able to build an oil well there?

I can understand the exploit nature of, I'll just slam a city on top of a resource and then get it (even if it wasn't my sphere already), but shouldn't an exception be made for cities? Or maybe the computer could relocate the resource by one tile in a random direction... ??
Please? I don't want Rome dependant of foreign american Oil!

I thought that once you have the tech to build the proper terrain improvement (in this case, combustion I think), you automatically have the resource hooked up if you have a city on top of it. Do you have combustion?

The trick isn't to break some eggs to make an omelette, it's convincing the eggs to break themselves in order to aspire to omelettehood.

You can see oil a tech or two before you can access it. Once you have the right tech you'll have the resource.

I am unsure as to whether all resources give you the tile bonus when you build cities on them.

And, of course, you dont' get the production bonus of building a well on top of it.

This has happened to me once before. You'll get immediate access to the resource when you discover Combustion and can start making Tanks immediately afterwards.

yep, I was about to get seriously pissed when my coal under my city didn't work.

It wasn't until after I attacked and conquered 3 Roman cities in an attempt to get their coal (and after I finally researched railroad) did I realize that when you get the appropiate tech, you can use the resource.

sorry romans. I just conquered 3 of your cities for nothing . In any case, the culture from their capitol was too strong. Even with all the culture improvements, I couldn't push back the borders enough to get access to that second coal anyways.
