  • Problem Starting Game i Haven't Seen Fix Yet Here

I am using alcohol 120 percent as my virt drive, i installed the game with no problems. The problem comes when i try to play the game, i hit play and it thinks for a second and then a standard windows xp error message comes up stating that civ iv has encountered an error and needs to shut down. It's the standard xp error reporting screen. It's very frustrating as i have tried several fixes and nothing seems to be working. If anyone has any suggestions or knows of a solution any help would be greatly appreciated. I exceed all of the minimum requirements for my pc and i have upgraded my ati drivers, as well as my direct x. Stumped....................

Part of the copy protection on the DVD/CD will detect programmes like Alcohol, and refuse to load the game. IIRC, Civ4 uses SafeDisk 4 protection.

The "official" way to go is to uninstall any programmes you have that may be used to load disk images, like Alcohol, DaemonTools, etc.

Otherwise, a bit of searching with Google may point you in the right direction....

Daemon tools doesnt stop it from loading. Try using that instead of alcohol. I prefer Daemon tools anyway. I dont think you'll lose any functionality from the change.

If it's not alcohol then I can't think what could be wrong. All I can say is try reinstalling and if possible onto a second harddrive.
I used to be Darkknight.. many many moons ago. "CTP2 is almost out!!" time.

I run Alcohol 120% on my machine, and Civ runs fine. It is not detecting Alcohol.

I would start by reinstalling, then applying the 1.09 patch.
