Beelining

I think it was Liberalism i wanted to beeline for. I had my tech tree right next to me, and researched the correct techs to get it. Then it wasn't available when i thought it would be.

Is it because even though you have a path to the tech, you have to wait for an era to start before you get techs of that era?

No eras, but check the 'pedia for prerequisites rather than the paper tree. It's not really a strategy question, but a 'how does the tech tree work?' question for the general forum.

edit - also, we've already got a thread called this (or similar) for actual beeline strategy discussion. It's better if the strat forum isn't full of 'how do I?' threads.
