  • cIV cRASHING - not a rant

Okay, I really like this game. That being said, I'm having an increased amount of the game just crashing mid-game. I can't uncover a reason or cause.

When the game first came out, I was attempting to play some internet games with some fellow Apolytoners. We would go to the gamespy lobby and get a game going. In two seperate situations, we would get a standard game going -- only to have it crash out around the year 2000 BC. In the latest situation - both of us experienced a cIV application crash on our system. No error message and no obvious cause.

In a SP game this morning, I wanted to try "tilted axis", so I got a standard map going with 11 civs. I got playing to around 3000 BC and the game just crashed out -- right to the desktop. Again, no errors, no messages. When I ask my worker to FARM the wheat, it crashes. Give him different orders, no crash.

I have attached the save to see if someone else can load it and see if the same thing happens to them.

If anyone is interested in my system specs:
    AMD Athlon 3400+
    1 GIG RAM
    nVidia GeForce 6800GT 256 MEG

Loaded your save file and gave the order to farm the wheat. No crash. Played several more turns (until the farm was built). No crash or other problems with the game.

My video card is NVIDIA GeForce 6800 (not a "GT" though) with 256MB. Driver version is 7.7.7.4. Haven't had any crashes, just stuttering sound in Wonder movies late in the game.

Thank Petek for the test. I really appreciate that. I'll concentrate more on the settings on my system to see what the problem is. That suggests to me that my system caused the problems in the multiplayer example in my OP.

        Thanks again.
