Can I inside a game see statistics of how my competitors are developing (how large their armies are, how good economy, etc) ? I have not found out if it is possible yet, but maybe that's because I always play with closed borders (or maybe I should have yet another look in the manual)...

PS: does anyone have the bradygames official guide? Is it any good compared to the manual or is it mainly the same stuff they go through?

You can open borders and send scouts in, or you can roughly see thier military might on the Power chart in the info screen (F8).
