  • Never ever exchange world map

... if you want to have the game stable...

After exchanging world map with an AI nation (which uncovered 90% of the planet), I have the game crash very often, during the turn processing or even during the save game.

Its kinda annoying... I would say that civ4 is choking with all these datas to move around.

Anybody has the same experience (huge world with 12 civs)

Yep exact same thing. Then I downgraded my vdidia drivers to 71.89 and all those issues went away. Still got stuttering sound but no crashes in over a week.

I think it has something to do with uncovering a lot of map. It starts to really slow things down. Why can't we have an old map like the one from civ2?

I haven't had a crash from it, but it's a definite slowdown. But really, it's either have a bit of a stall now or a huge one when you get satellites, so....

Revealing map does slow it down a lot. Maybe it crashes on some computers. Just go into World Builder and click the Reveal Entire Map...for me, it takes about a minute to do it on standard size map, but it doesn't crash (just freezes for a minute, then comes back).

methink that they have to optimize quite a lot of algorithms for the patch... I just checked the memory peak on a huge pangaea: 950/1024 mo of RAM and 240/256 of video RAM!
