Disbanding Cities in Civ 4

What annoys me when I take the city is that I'm not always sure if it contains a wonder or not. I don't like to burn down cities with wonders

No matter what I do Mansa is going to settle somewhere in the middle of the desert and when he and Gaul flip I'll be stuck with two cities I don't want.

What is my choice?
