Not enough time in second half of game, what settings to change?

I doubt it Hengist. It seems that Firaxis favors quick games, maybe with Multiplayer or RTS customers in mind, I don't know. I cannot say I blame them; for MP this is definitely a good thing. On the other hand I play mostly SP, so I am not happy with the change. Oh well.

Anyway it was never so easy to mod your game, so give it a try. Also, regarding tech trading: if you like it and don't want to switch it off, you can always move it to a later tech. Instead Alphabet, move it to Guilds or whatever. This way less tech whoring will occur (at least in the first part of the game) but you will still have this feature enabled for the late game.

Thanks, I'll try your suggestion. It's just disappointing, that to try and get a fix for the game speed, you have to loose part of the game, i.e. Loosing the tech trading aspect.

There is another way to look at it. That by having tech trading on you lose much of the strategic depth in research.

Sorry to resurrect such an old thread, but it seemed a good place to ask this question. I haven't played Civ4 since the latest patch v1.61. Has this in any way fixed the pacing issue where the game is too fast in the latter stages of the game with tech advances coming to rapidly, or is this still an edit-to-taste situation? I remember using a cool little app that edited the correponding xml file for you to space out the pacing to make the timing more realistic, but I can't remember what it was called or where I found it (my old hard drive died a tragic death).

Edit: uhm... idiot me. I found the link to the app in this very thread The question about v1.61 remains though: has the pacing changed at all? If not, does anybody know if that editing app is compatible with the v1.61 patch?

I think they did make a few small tweaks to costs, but the best solution remains playing epic I think.
