  • Why havent we heard from Firaxis yet?????

    Hi
I`ve been waiting for someone else to post this question, but we havent heard from Firaxis yet over various issues and a date on the much awaited patch.
I find this a bit odd as in previous game releases such as alpha centauri and civ3 they were always answering posts on this and other forums??
    Anybody with any answers?????

I bet they are all drunk.

PS: Soren posts rather a lot here on different subjects. I bet that's 'cause he's drunk though

They were never forthcoming about dates for patches until one or two days before the patch was released. Basically, they waited until they knew that a patch was ready for release, since people whine like hell if they say "we hope to have a patch out by the end of the month" but it ends up being a week after that.

The patch will be when the patch will be and I will squirt ink into the eyes of those looking for a release date.
I will not squirt ink in your eyes for there exists too much blindness already.

I suspect they want to get the most mileage possible out of the patches allowed to them by the publisher. They could have easily already released a patch with a few quick fixes, so I think you're seeing Firaxis trying to make a big impact with a much more complete patch that addresses a ton of issues.

I understand the frustration, though, of not having any sense of the timing. Let's just stick with "When it's ready."

                  WHS.

It's more efficient (although a bigger wait for us) to release fewer, bigger patches. Every patch will require a full test cycle, and test cycles tend to take the same amount of time whether for a big patch or a medium patch.

The longest testing would be for game balance, I'd imagine. Bugs are easy to spot - subtle game balance issues are not only more difficult to spot, but are also subjective (which is why people end up modding the game anyway!)

Usually its best to do code-fixing patches first, and balancing ones last so there is less margin for error with last group of patches.

(I really think we got burned with last Civ3:Conquest patch and issues remaining)

Yup i hope its soon, CIV4 is a great game to play but the reboots that i experience seem to be getting worse. Ive done everything in this and civ fanatics forums, but i still get crashes( bios upgrades, drivers ,changing my virtual memory settings) i even went out and bought a 256 meg Nvidia graphics to replace my 64 meg nvidia..oh well at least half life 2 looks really cool now !!!!

                        Let me explain.
I suspect they want to see some “very expected footage of a card box breakfast” before they release any fix or patch... Mainly to see if the game worth a patch…

There's a fact of life that we have to keep in mind. The game developer is making what the publisher tells them to make, not what we or they want. Granted, they're working hard on a patch and apperently, an expansion, but it's VERY LIKELY that they have a Non-disclosure agreement and are unable to tell us what's going on.
It's also quite likely that a patch was already done, but isstill in testing. They would also have had to change the patch, to compensate for after-release graphics card issues.
Last but not least, they probably have a planned patch release date and are sitting on it, until then, whether it's done or not (then, they have to yank patch elements back out, that don't work quite right... leading to other last minute problems).

Soren posts quite a lot, BTW. However, it would be extremely unwise for Firaxis to announce a patch release date before the patch is ready. I can see them giving an announcement maybe two days before, but not more.

LOL I promise that if Firaxis explains that *I* am the reason for holding up the patch, I'll eat cardboard right now whether it has anything to do with ICS/combat or not!
