One great use for Great Artists is when you have a situation with a critical resource on the other side of a border, so close yet so far... but with a Great Artist bomb, YOINK! .

On super-specialists vs immediate gratifaction, it's kind of situational but I believe in most cases as long as you can leverage the "lump sum" it's a better option. For example a great merchant trade mission could speed up your new world expansion by 15 turns.

With Great Scientists it's a simple calculation, will you get more beakers by making a super-scientist in your oxford city, or creating an acadamy in a secondary research city? IMO the lightbulb is only worth it in the end game.

With the Engineers.... Wonders tend to come in waves, such that you can't get them all. With strategic GE use you probably can snag some extra wonders and they will be quite significant.

Btw, there's no reason to feel compelled to decide what to do with a GP right away. You can leave them sitting on their butts for a few centuries, granted this is time they could be earning you profit as a super-specialist, but keeping them around gives you flexibility, I tend to only do this with Artists and Engineers only. (well, the stonehenge Prophet too if applicable)

When the conditions are non-ideal (ie. Let's say we have an abundance of plains), I typically find that workshops are more useful than cottages to get the city to be useful before irrigation comes in. That way, I can build useful buildings at a reasonable rate with Slavery and before Emancipation/Gold-hurrying.

Great guide thanks a lot - I'm still playing around with what spec I have/need.

Typically, what do people use thier capitals for? What should I lean it towards, I mean currently I just try to build what wonders I can asap. Be interesting to hear different views.

I notice you mention great person cradle, but surely like someone said, the bueurocracy thing could make it great for production and science too - especially if say for science (and with financial) you start cottages very early?
