  • Stupid question but...

How do you enable trading on coast? Usually every Civ except mine has the icon indicating coastal trading in the little score window at the bottom right corner at some point in the game.

I've been doing fairly well, am able to consistently win on "prince" level but this little icon thing has me baffled is the icon just not showing or is there some source of income that im overlooking?

Guess I should break out the manual and start reading, but i'd rather be playing!

You need the Sailing technology in order to trade on coastlines.

Yep, I realize that but even after i get sailing I never get the icon next to my name? Even when I am trading with every Civ in the game. Is this just a bug maybe that the icon doesnt show?

I just feel like i'm missing out on something important not having the 3 yellow arrow icon next to my name LOL

Ahh I might have just realised...does the icon only show next to the names of the civs I am trading via the coast with?

That icon simply means that your civilization's trade network is connect to their civilization's trade network (capitol to capitol), so you can trade with them. You can't trade goods with yourself, so there is no need for your own icon. The same icon is used on all your cities (near the name) to show which ones are connected to the trade network.

You have to connect your capital to the other civ's capitals with roads/rails. Or both captials have to be on the coast.
