Yeah, my comp is definitely not fast enough to handle 4. I'm sticking with 1.

I am so sick of morons running around smacking everyone in the head to upgrade every two months. I have a brand new laptop and I still have to use my half-assed workaround for the black map problem.
I'm not complaining about the half-assed workaround, though, I'm complaining about the morons.
Every 2 months? What the hell do you buy? Second hand trash someone else doesn't need anymore?
As i said, my comp is over 2 years ago with the latest upgrade being a relatively good graphics card at the beginning of this year. Spent $150 on a new 6800 GT. That thing gave my computer new life. There is absolutely no need to upgrade every 2 months. If you do, find a new computer geek to give you advice on what to buy - because the last one is pulling a fast one on you.
Now, with that being said, lets talk about the other side.
I'm "sick of morons running around smacking everyone in the head" telling them all games should run on older computer models, should support Win98, and require no more than 64 mb ram!
Dude(s)!..... That isn't realistic. If we want a state of the art game, we will need to go with state of the art equipment. You can't expect a computer to stay competitive for more than 2-3 years.
YOu also can't expect those who have relatively good systems to buy software that was optimized on hardware & operating systems from 3 generations ago.
I got a little theory here.... I bet most of you who complain about to demanding resource requirements will eventually go out and buy some hardware to make the game work properly on your old system - but just barely. Then when Civ5 comes around with even higher requirements, you all are gonna complain again because you didn't buy good stuff in the first place that would of gotten you much further.
My original point was NOT that the game should run on every system. My point was that i don't understand why they'd go 3d and then make the recomended specs still too low to fully play the game.
Well... that actually wasn't the real point of this thread, but it might as well have been considering the annoying responses.
Regardless, this thread has gone out of control and just become another part of the dumb flamewar that's been raging on and off since this game came out.

This website is for sale! kensalter.com is your first and best source for all of the information you’re looking for. From general topics to more of what you would expect to find here, kensalter.com has it all. We hope you find what you are searching for!
Looks like it will more than meet my needs.
This is a nice utility but if you are feeling adventurous and want even more information on the processes and services running on your machine you could try pages such as
which has a great list of many of those annoying little processes that gnaw away at your machines processing power with advice on which you might consider terminating.
For a list of services that you might consider disabling you could check out blackviper's website, he has a very thorough list of windows services and which you can safely tamper with. This is normally at http://www.blackviper.com but the site is down temporarily because he is moving. The key information is still available at:
Editor's Note: This information was originally created and belongs to Black Viper We had reproduced it, in large part until the original website returned. As of 3/2007. It did. So go visit Black Vip...
It even provides a recommended setting for each service specifically for gaming.

Thanks to people like you, Firaxis is encouraged to quickly rush more mediocrely-made (small $ to design and coding) and supremely-hyped (BIG $$$ to marketing) games like CivIII.
The isn't so slow and clumsy on older PCs because of graphics, but because so much of the code is "wastefully" fully moddable. Graphics are pretty bad for todays standards, consider AoE III before getting insulted.

WTF??
How did you get the impression from my statement that I favor rushing games to be released -- if anything, I want a more polished game released.
