  • Game won't launch

DOn't think this is the same as the 'failed to initialise' error.

Nothing happens at all when I click on the desktop icon or the icon in the game folder. If I put the disk in and click 'play' it just goes back to decktop.

My specs are well above minimum but I don't think its a spec issue coz it doesn't actually fail anywhere, just doesn't even try to start.

Please help someone coz I've been looking forward to this game for ages and now is't on my hard drive but I can't get at it

    System is P4 3.2
    Xp
    Geforce FX5950 Ultra 256mb
    Realtek AC97 Audio

All drivers are the latest. I can run FarCry and many other demanding games.

Similar problems were reported in this thread:

Creating a new user and running the game under that user worked for at least one person.

The Disk 1 or install disk is the Play disk. Call the Disk 2 or play disc the -- data disc. If a DVD -ROM you may need a new bios that can be downloaded for your DVD-Rom.

Sorted it by adding another windows user account. It's running fine now.

Has there been any patches since release. Can't seem to fond a download page?

Do you see the multilingual "Loading screen". I had a similar problem and it was due to the copy-protection on Civ4 flaking out.

          You can use StartMenu>Run>"MSinfo">"Startup" Tab

To turn various softwares on and off at startup. Some of them might be interfering with your copy protection or game.

Glad to hear that you solved the problem.

No patches have been released yet, and no official word on when that will happen. Latest rumor is that a patch will be released by the end of the month.

Take a look at your event log. If you see something like:

              Event Type: Error
              Event Source: Service Control Manager
              Event Category: None
              Event ID: 7000
              Date: 14/11/2005
              Time: 12:50:43
              User: N/A
              Computer: MAGNUM
              Description:
The SecDrv service failed to start due to the following error:
The system cannot find the path specified.

it's to do with the Safedisc copy protection. I have the same problem: http://www.apolyton.net/forums/showt...hreadid=142989

The original poster in this thread apparently solved his problem by creating a new user with admin rights and running the game under the new account.

I will post a suggestion in the thread that you started.
