trouble with city map in city view

OK, this is probably a daft question, but here it goes...
On the city map in the city view why can I only see symbols for food 'bread symbols', but no symbols for cash or production?

The only thing I can think of besides a game bug is that you have no cash producing squares Do you have any cottages or roads built? (not sure about the second one, thats from older civ games)

Yes, this is even in cities where there are cottages...

Do you mean none, regardless of tiles being worked or do you mean full sized as you get when worked?

Because cottages or any tiles has to be worked (white circle) to generate goods.

If you toggle resources on can you see hammers on hills?

I don't see hammers on worked hills or money on worked cottages/towns. Just to check, what is the toggle reseource quick key?
