  • Make City Placement easier using Strategy Layer

The Strategy Layer will let you make new Signs and Lines. This can be used to make outlines of your empire before you expand.

    Click Globe View button
    Click Strategy Layer button

After you have selected them you'll see four words. You'll have to select one by left clicking in order to use one.

    Delete
    New Sign
    New Line
    View

The New Sign will let you place signs around the map. Found a village and want a scout to pick it up later instead of your warrior? Place a sign there. Want to know where your next cities will be because you have it mapped out already. Place a sign there so you never forget.

The New Line will let you make lines. Want to map out the area for your soon to be cities by creating outlines of them? This is for you. Want to illustrate a strategy of how you will invade the enemy? Draw some arrows of your invasion master plan.

Want to clear all that stuff out? Select Delete and move your mouse over the area you placed the sign or lines and left click.

Unfortunately, it seems that these markings are lost when you close the game. I had made such markings, saved the game, exited for the night, came back the next morning, reloaded the game and the markings were gone. Och!

Has anyone found a case where the markings are preserved after closing and reopening the game?

I was really disappointed that the strategy layer didn't save. I was hoping to put my plans (battle or otherwise) onto paper so to speak while the game was fresh in my mind so when I came back I would have a good idea what was going on.

yeah personally I used it to mark out each citys fat x using the line tool, that way it was easier for me to avoid/minimize overlap. I really hope someone can mod the strategy layer to make it permenant somehow

It involves great risk in MP - your plans being uncovered by some hacking!
