Help me out - What is Academy?

I saw an entry in the Civilopedia building section there is something called an "Academy" which would give +50% science... well, I have never seen this building anywhere; I don't remember any of my cities having built one; and it's not in the list of buildings that I could build.

What is it?

You can create it with a Great Scientist, it kills the GS involved. Think "Plato's academy".

Isn't the academy also the Confucian cathedral?

nope - VJ is right. The GS can build it. It seems that the Academy can only be build in the city where the GS was born. The Confucian Academy is a whole different deal.

It can be built in any city that doesn't have one yet.

That´s named "Confucian academy" AFAIR.
So there´s little chance to mistake it for the academy a GS creates.
