  • Obsolete wonders

I never really paid attention, because I thought *my* tech research is what makes wonders obselete. But on page 96 of the manual, it states when *any* civilization researches a tech, that will make my wonder(s) obselete.

If this is right, I've been waiting far too long to research calander when I have the Stonehenge.

Is the manual correct? I guess a good way to tell is see if there are still free obelisks in my cities...

That's the way it's worked in all other Civ and CtP games. Only one civ can build a wonder, and as soon as any civ researches the obsoleting tech then that wonder stops working.

Apparently the wonders keep generating culture after they go obsolete though. Not sure if they keep generating great person points too, anyone know??...

Your wrong aileron. At least in Civ 3 your wonders only got obsolete with you researching the tech.

        With the stonhenge idea:

It puts an obliesk in every city. And that obliesk is not removed until YOU (the player) discover calander.

Oh sorry, I shouldn't have said all civs since I only played Civ 3 twice. Civ2, CtP1, CtP2, and maybe Civ4 (see below).

So what makes the wonder expire, and what effects remain after the wonder expire could be totally different for each wonder? Keeper, did you get that from the Civopedia or the manual?

the manual is wrong in that reguard I'm pretty sure.

Also GL continue to be produced even after a wonder is obsolete

Culture from the wonder continues to be produced long after a wonder is obsolete as well.

Yes, my obliseks from the Stonehidge don't disappear until I aquire the Calendar tech in a trade; so Civ IV appears to be just like Civ III in that wonders expire when the owner gets the tech and not first in the world.
