So this is actually the things that made THE CUT.

This does not really mean that any of them would or would not be considered for expansion.

      *sigh*

I find the game as it is somewhat bland. I'm quite sure it is because they decided to leave some stuff out in order to hussle us for more $

I wouldn't read too much into assets left in the final build that are not used in-game. RTW had some stuff like that too... a whole bunch of files pointing to a Caesar campaign and a Scipio campaign that didn't make the final version - and they weren't in the expansion pack either.

These are probably just things that got dropped - not to "hussle us for more $", but just because sometimes concepts don't play out well in testing and get dropped. Period.

But, if you want to find a conspiracy I'm sure you can make one up.

          interesting that you mention RTW
They ruined the great product they had (MTW) by releasing a game that wasnt just bugged but completely broken in some respects and that had lost all of the atmosphere and gameplay of MTW
If you went to the official forums and complained the thread was locked or moved and when i suggested that they had released an extreamly poor product and that they owed it to everybody who had shelled out their hard earned cash to correct it thru patches BEFORE making an expansion i was threatened with a ban
People that post things liek "OMG i will never buy XXXX product ever again!" generally get laughed at
The result of this was i aquired my copy of the expansion to RTW online, played it once or twice and then deleted it cause it was crap

I will be fairly offended if Firaxis release an expansion before they have patched out the errors in civ4
Its a good game but its not complete yet and asking people to pay for an expansion on the promise that it will fix problems that should have been fixed before a game was released isnt really on

but i know Firaxis wouldnt do that

I'm so tired of companies purposely not including features just so they can put it in a damn expansion pack to make more money. Simcity 4 should of had all the features of its expansion pack, but they did it purposely.

All the flags are used in scenarios. There is nothing to suggest they are an expansion pack or cut out content.

Yeah, and the unfinished leaderheads are also used in the scenarios.

Shame. Shame I say to Firaxis for trying to make more money. Shame I say to Firaxis for not including every idea any of their devs thought of in the final release. Shame I say to Firaxis for leaving out things until the expansion.

Some of you people need to get a grip. Not everything can be in a game. If you think it can, I suggest you start coding.

Seriously. Get real, folks. If you think people leave stuff out of an expansion because they want to put it in later, go get your head checked. Game designers don't run out of new ideas; they have too many.

If Firaxis pulled that stuff, it's a good bet that they didn't want something in they couldn't devote full time and effort to - not because they were worried about running out of neat ideas for an expansion and they wanted to stretch us for money.

Designers want their games to be great, not adequate. There's a point of diminishing returns that requires you to focus on a smaller pool than your original idea set, though.

"Augustus" looks like a caricature of the current Alexander model.

Well said. It should be stressed that I bring this up as future expansion pack material not because I think Firaxis is a company that is trying to milk us for money, but as Fried said, I view them as good ideas that they simply ran out of time for during development.

That is the final drop. They release a game and then just wait a little and release the expansion making us bleed out of our ears in order to get the full deal. May they be cursed with ethics courses for eternity!
thank god you never saw the art files for civ2.

thank god you never played smac or civ3.
it's just my opinion. can you dig it?

On topic, this is an excellent point that was brought up at Civ Fanatics also. The final leaderhead for Alexander has a much closer resemblance to the concept art for Augustus than for Alexander. There is a lot of strange unusued Alexander art that was unused that also supports this theory. I may post some of it later.

So Alexander, chin and all, was originally meant to be Augustus?

civ3 was so awful that i lost interest and even tho they did patch alot of its problems i still didnt like teh AI much
i thougth SMAC was absolutley great and i didnt bother with SMACX until v recently when i got it as freeware off HOTU
it was disapointing tbh and detracted from teh original game
