Can't find certain interface features - please help :)

Alright, I am at a loss here;

- I have looked through the manual (which doesn't say much, I have tried flipping through it several times, but I keep thinking to myself that it is... lacking. I wish it had an index).
- I have looked through the option menus in-game.
- I have looked through all the Hints in the civilopedia (some nifty things in there, check it out if you have not)
- I tried searching the forums here
- Even Google failed to help me

but I still haven't figured out how to
1) name things on the map, putting out signs or call it what you will
2) draw "battle plans" on the map

Am I missing something trivial? Am I just being stupid and/or blind here? If so, feel free to ridicule me as you see fit.

Zoom out to world view and click on the icon above the mini map on the very left side. You can only add and edit them in the world view but you can see them at any view.

I've found how to put namemarks on the map, but what key combo must be used to draw on the map?

Sure about that? I recall reading that all of these nifty things were supposed to be available in single-player as well?

I have to try it once I get home.
In the meantime: any more takers on the subject/question at hand?

It can be used in SP and MP. I do know that the lines you draw aren't saved but I'm not sure about the signs. I was disappointed to find that it didn't save since I thought it was going to be a neat feature to remind yourself about things when you can't play a game in one sitting.

Not sure about any key combos. I use the mouse for most of my actions.

On the right side above the minimap (where scores usually are) you'll see some options "view" "Draw" things like this.

Click on one that's not "View".

I can give you the exact screenshot when I get home.

Also, you can use it at zoom levels less than "world map". As you zoom in you will notice the icons above the minimap change from one zoom level to the next. You might want to use page down to be specific about the zoom level.

There's an icon for turning on the "Strategy Layer".

It's the first Icon on the bar (going left to right)
