Multiple Clicks on Icon to start

I have not seen anyone post on this issue but I have to click on the icon multiple times to get the game to start. Sometimes I will get to the loading screen but then it goes away and 5 minutes later I am waiting at the desktop with nothing else having happened. If I keep clicking on the icon after about 4 to 5 times the game will finally start up.

Any suggestions?

Don't know if this helps you, but:
I have a motherboard sound card which is called AC97, and I just can't find a directx 9.0c -compatible driver for it.
I disabled sound, now it works.
