LAN game problem/ question

I just posted this in the bug forum, but I wanted to see if anyone else was having this problem, or maybe had any idea about how to fix it... Has anyone tried starting a LAN game, and gotten an error about not being able to start a socket, having a socket error, and not being able to start the messaging engine? I'd like to play with one of my roommates, but we're both having this problem. I don't think its related to the network, as we've played plenty of LAN games of many types in the past, and never had any issues.

Anyone else experiencing this, or have any ideas?

I also have this problem on one of my computers - same exact error messages. I thought maybe it was the firewall, but disabling that didn't fix it. =(
