  • Can the game be installed on an offline PC?

And then patched by downloading the patch and transferring it via CD?

Most likely, yes. I don't see why not, but I could be wrong.

So there's no required validation slash copy protection scheme as with Windows XP?

Mmmmno, I don't think so, unless it's one that goes on behind the scenes.

Ummm... you do have a legal copy, don't you?

AFAIK, patching a pirated version of a game could show problematic.

Well, well, well...there's a blast from the past.
Even Libertarian is curious about Civ4.

            Good to see you.

And even Ockhams razor is still in the sig.

I take it we can look forward to some constructive criticism in the Civ4 fora?

I installed it on a standalone comp. without any
                problems.

Yes, it was an original, bought, version.

Not sure how patching would work, never needed
                it before.

Since I only have internet acces at work, having
games have no online requirements is a must for
                me. I'm STILL pissed at Half-life 2 . I'll wait for
                the playstation version.

Thanks for the memories. Good to hear from all of you. And yes, our copy is legal (Amazon) but we haven't installed it yet. Our work PC is the only one online and we can't put games on it. Still would like to know about that patch, though. I don't know how you could play it without a patch, given all the complaints.

The complaints seem worse than they are. It's a vocal minority, but it is a minority

Note: I'm not at all saying there aren't issues, so don't bother flaming me.

Well, it's pretty logical, really. Those without complaints, who are probably making up 90%, will never make a thread here

You can definately install Civ IV offline because I was offline when I successfuly installed it. [edit: fixed Indian-english; I have several Indian coworkers. ]

And it plays SP games offline as well; I'm on my second game.

What I'm not sure of is patches. There currently are no patches released for the US yet. I would guess it would work if you placed it in the correct directory, but keep in mind that a patch probably won't fit on a floopy.
