Trading resources overseas?

Ok, I am trying to figure out why I can't trade resources with cultures from another continent? I have a harbor, open borders, good relations...yet my extra resources don't show up for trade with any of the 4 cultures on that continent. Whay am I missing?

I believe you need the astronomy technology to trade over ocean squares... the other civ probably needs it too.

Well, I was just able to trade resources with China. I don't have Astronomy, so maybe he does and only 1 person needs it?

Or you don´t need to cross any ocean tile to reach chinese harbors (but just "normal" sea tiles).

Might be that, they simply don't have anything to offer.
