  • Anyone played the Earth map?

I'm getting my ass beat on warlord level . For some reason this Earth map is 10 times harder than the normal game. Normally I utterly dominate Warlord level. Even Noble level I dominate by the end of the game. But I can't get anything done on this Earth map.

I started as the Mongols expecting a quick beat down of the chinese. Well the chinese actually attacked me first!! Well before I was prepared. Around the same time the barbarian hordes came from the north, northwest, and northeast. I spent almost as many resources fighting them off.

Until I took Beijing (shouldn't it be Peking ), I wasn't even listed in the list of names in the bottom right as being in the top 7 or 8 in points . Pathetic.

I may have to restart and place more emphasis on defense. I hate raging barbarians with a passion. Oh well.

I tried but late in the game it got so slow I figured I would wait for a patch so I could finish it .

it does seem to be a pretty big map. long load times even in the beginning.

I also loaded up the revolutionary war mod and scenario. I'd like to check that out. But I still want to play some more epic games first.

I've been playing around with the 18 civ earth map for a while and found that it is very hard to do well on noble level with certain civilizations. I think this has to do with starting locations being vastly unequal. For example, Egypt starts with access to food, stone, marble, and horses within first city borders, Mansa Musa starts in a flood plain with no resources. China has vastly better start location than Mongolia. The Incans are completely cut off on the West side of the Andes without galleys. The civilizations I've observed doing consistently poorly in this map are Greece, Mansa Musa, and America. Germany and Egypt always seem to do well.

I played India and had a hell of a time on Noble level. Because of the mountains to the north and competing civs all around me I was forced to expand down into Indonesia and Australia and even had started colonizing Central America when Chnia and Mongolia decided to attack and then Rome soon followed. I couldn't bribe anyone to help except Germany and that was too little too late as my cities soon fell like dominoes. But I enjoyed it anyway. I really like this so far.

              To the original poster:

Hey don't you remember? You are the Mongols -- you ARE "the barbarian horde from the North"!

that's what I had planned to be. But it takes a little while to research horseback riding and archery. And get the barracks built. The barbarians razed 2 of my civies . I only had 2 cities to build units. I did manage to take Beijing though.

But the game was running pretty slow. I can't imagine how slow it'd be in the modern age.
