  • How a catapult can destroy an helicopter?

Why USA spend tons of money in army?
They should just build up some wood catapults, and they will control all the world!

    Don't you belive me?

Go and play civilization IV! You'll see how the mighty wood catapults can destroy even helicopters!

...I never understand why in ALL civilizations (I,II,III,IV) there is always this problem:

A unit of the Roman Empire Age that destroy a unit of the modern age.

I remeber the greek soldier of civ I that was destroying tanks.
And now, in civ IV, catapults can destroy helicopters...

That's could be fun. But is not what I like in this game.

Look your the 23819038210982109 person to write something like this. How about screenshots, or the odd calculator of victory, or even the SITUATION. Was their catapult in a hilled city with fortifcation bonus, and a 100% culture protection bonus, with more promotions then you want to list? Oh and were you doing a river cross? Or was your helicopter weakened out?

Just how damaged was that helicopter in the first place?

If both were 100% healthy, that's about as likely as winning a lottery.

I could set it up to where a club wielding warrior could destroy a badly damaged tank if I really wanted, too. Realistic? Well I don't know. Give me a club and find me a tank thats shot to hell and smoldering, barely able to move, much less shoot.

I sure do get tired of these threads. BTW Civ2 never had this problem. So don't include them in the above list. Firepower eliminated all of these problems.

The catapult attaked (and destroyed) my copter (full health) in open space (No city or else...).

That happen not once, but at least twice. Then I decided to take a new strategy...

          About civ 2:
If you put a greek soldier, in fortres status, in mountain, almost nothing can kill it. ^^

Well... in civ III maybe never happen something like this... If I don't mistake... :P

nothing could take out a howitzer in civ2. nothing. Only if it was damaged did it stand any chance of losing.

Yeah, these threads get real old. Mainly because the people who post them are idiots. OMG wtf pwnzors a catapult beat a helicopter wtf this game suxxors! You are not clever, this is the same drivel that lots of others have posted.

Come on, you are exaggerrating, we all do it. What probably happened is that a catapult killed a partially damaged helicopter.

The point is, who cares if your helicopter died to a catapult. If you are using helicopters vs catapults, the game is over buddy, just build another friggin' helicopter or dear god build more than 2 helicopters for christ sakes or hey how about not leaving a helicopter by a catalpult. Helicopters are for raiding anyways, they are supposed to die.

As for Civ2, yeah I really liked the firepower/hp system. Howitzers were gods when attacking. On the defensive though, a tank or mech infantry killed them handily. But Howtizers in a stack of units defending it = god. Which is one of the things that made Civ2 a little too easy. You *could* still use a lose a tank to a spearman in Civ2, firepower or no, if the spearman got extremely lucky and yes in Civ2 people made lots of dumb posts just like the original poster.

When you think about it, a catapult defeating a helicopter is not that bizarre.

If a catapult got in a good shot, the copter would likely go down. Catapults are throwing large heavy stones into the air. A Helicopter is hovering in the air. Hit by a large, heavy stone flying through the air, it's a gonner.

All these repeat posts do is demonstrate that some people cannot separate the graphic interface of the game from the mechanics.

And I'm curious how this bothers people so much as for them to complain.

But seriously I haven't had whacked out combat results. What I do when I'm unsure of the city modifiers, I right click hold and move it will comfirm the odds before you attack (when you release the right mouse button you will attack).

Based on these results, I've found that everytime I have a higher number than theirs, I win. When I have a lower number I lose. When the number is the same it's about 50/50.

Based on my post above, you can conclude combat results aren't broken. And an easy way to ensure that modern combat troops don't lose is to up their strength values about 50% (I recommend increasing all gunpowder and above unit strenghts 50%). problems solved. Case closed. I don't want to hear another catupult defeats helicopter thread again.

This is one thread too many, there are already tons of threads on this. And, they all clearly state what the probabilities of such combat results are. If the superior unit isn't horribly damaged, then you'll maybe see it lose once a year.
