Things to keep in mind when switching strats?

I'm going to try switching from a failing builder/culture to a expansionist/warmonger.

Now, I don't mean warmonger as in "pick a fight all the time" I mean I want to be ready for anybody.

What are some things to keep in mind when switching? I'm going to start falling into some bad habbits so I need a list to keep me on the straight and narrow. (easier to mow people down that way )

Don't neglect your own economy to build an army. If you're used to using all of your productivity on economic resources it's easy to fall behind when you start siphoning off some of your resources to maintain an army. You have to do it, obviously, just be careful that you find the right balance. Building a big force of pikemen today won't help you much when your opponents march in with grenadiers.
