In the middle of the game, the hard drive started thrashing real bad, so I opened up the task manager, and saw an interesting graph. Notice how the PF usage goes up and down -- remember, at this point, I wasn't doing ANYTHING (I couldn't). This graph went wild but followed a definate trend of approaching the max limit at each peak. Eventually I killed the process running Civ4, before it kills the system.
