  • How much culture to win a large terran world?

I thought 65000 would be enough. I guess not. I had one city at 72000, one at 66000, and one at 65000. I couldn't delay any longer, or I would have lost the spaceship race. Actually I did lose, but I reloaded and switched to my last part with one turn left. For some reason I couldn't build the building that creates spies. What's up with that? Is there some requirement for Scotland Yard? Aggravating.

I had some massive culture too. I thought I could do it this game. Though I never did found a religion. That may have helped. Perhaps I didn't handle the religious thing as well as I should have. I'm still trying to learn this religion thing. Sigh. Eventually I'll win a game other than a space race. I even came within 50 votes of winning the diplomatic win. I was so close this game.

Here's a screenshot. Notice how my city pushed the border of that Indian city. That Indian city is the 4th highest rated cultural city. That's no slouch. I liked that. Culture bombs rock. My terraforming probably leaves a lot to be desired. I'm still trying to learn the best things to improve.

Check your "Victory Conditions" screen because if what you say is accurate, you would have won the culture race. I am guessing that somehow you disabled the "Culture" race, because to win it, you just need three cities with "Legendary Culture" (in "normal" game speed, 50,000 culture points per city. (This is cited on p. 106 of the manual.)

I'm guessing he played epic game speed, you need 75000 in three cities on epic.

You're probably right. His cities' populations are pretty low considering it's already 1949 A.D.

I still haven't figured out how to get my cities over population 20 . You can see my terraforming consists of more workshops than farms. Actually you can't see in that screenshot, as I tend to build farms along rivers (freshwater).

Actually I was going for cultural, so I had 4 artists in every city trying to create great artists. But I started this far too late. And didn't get enough great artists to bust me up over 75,000. But creating so many specialists created severe food and production problems for my cities. I didn't do this until I finished the tech tree though.
