dvd drive does not recognise disk

I have a LG dvd drive. I cannot install Civ 4 as the drive does not appear to recognise the disk. The green light comes on but nothing happens onscrean.
I am sure I read somewhere that some game disks do not like LG drives. Has anyone else had this problem and is there a solution apart from replacing the drive.
Take2 tech support think that the disk is faulty but this is not the case

Can the disc be read in another DVD drive? If you haven't already done this, you should test the disc in another drive.

Yes it can be read in another dvd drive. I am fairly sure that the disk is not faulty.

Have you checked for a firmware update from LG?
