  • Lost Units in a Culture Flip

I thought I read somewhere that units would not be lost in a culture flip anymore... this is apparently not true. I had taken an English city in my last game (flip after conquest was turned on) and stacked about 7 units there to maintain the peace. Apparently this wasn't enough, as the city ended up flipping some time later. And my 7 units were just GONE. What hurt most was that those units made up about 20% of my military at the time - including most of my advanced/well promo'd units.

Anyway... lesson learned. Units still disappear.

I thought so as well and I even thought I had one flip and not lost the unit. I am not all that sure, if I did or did not lose it.

In another game, I had a city flip to a civ with which I had an open border agreement, and my units stayed in the flipped city (that is, I didn't lose them).

But the city in my opening post flipped to a civ with which I had no diplomatic relations. I guess there's a difference.

I would still expect to keep the units even if you don't have an open border agreement - only that the units will be placed automatically outside the boundaries of the other civ.
Are you sure they units did not end up somewhere else on the map?

I lost some units this way, too. The enemy got some free troops to garrison the new city with. Some times when I've stolen cities in similar methods I steal one troop from the city and the rest remain under original control.

            That's weird.

Earlier this week, a city flipped to me from the
mongols, and I got 2 mech infantries with it.
However, the other units in the city (a fighter and
an infantry) remained under the Mongols control,
and left the city a few turns later. (I had open
borders, so they could stay for some R&R. )

None of my games so far have had any of my
cities flip to another civ yet though, so I dunno...

Like I said - it was about 20% of my units at the time, so it was hard not to notice they were gone. Also the stack included 2 of my 3 cannons. They most definitely disappeared; I checked the Military Advisor and I only had 1 cannon.
