  • Direct2Drive download of Civ4

Don't buy Civ4 as a download -- go to the store instead.

Direct2drive halts the download at 1.23 GB.

Then the only customer support email they have returns an automated message saying they will get back to you later...much later if you don't pay fileplanet a subscription fee of $6.95

Since I now have to wait for a refund from my credit card company for the game price so I can go to the store and buy another copy of the game I will have to wait a whole week to play.

If I have to wait that long I will just not buy the game.

If your CC is that dangerously maxed out then it might be a good idea to cut it up until you have paid it all off! ... or better still never use it again .... seems like a money manager you aint .....

I purchased a large game from D2D before and did not have a problem. Hmm..

I downloaded but there is no manual. A disappointment. Also, all patches and expansion packs have to be downloaded/purchased from them.
The positive side is that I don't need a CD to play the game.

no it isn't...I just don't want to end up paying twice for the same product in the event I can't get a refund.

Regardless, after watching the DL crash I pinpointed the exact spot where it stopped....tried again, hit pause and then resume and it worked. Still the whole experience was very negative. Would rather have gone to the store, it would have taken less time.

Now I hope those rocket scientists at D2D get the patch up in a timely manner so I don't have to wait longer than the rest of the game owners to get my game up and running.

I downloaded the file with no problems but there seem to be some glitches in the game. It can't find certain music files for tech advances and so on. Things like stuttering intro movies I'm willing to blame on my computer's low RAM but things like missing files and missing manuals are quite inexcusable.
