CIV4 start screen but without any words

Hi, I get a blue start up screen - I can hear the music but no picture. When it moves to the CIV4 'world' screen there are no words so I cant chose a map/game to start. HELP!

I had the same problem initially with my NVidia 5700 card. Once I updated the drivers to version 81.85, it started to work normally.

(I still have the slowdown problems in later years on a huge map, but I have been able to complete an entire game on a standard map with no trouble).

I have the same problem. I have a Radeon 9550, 1 GB RAM and intel 3 3.3 GHz processor. I had the rendering problem, but fixed that (thanks to finding this forum). I have the latest drivers and directx 9.0c.

When I start the game, the sound starts as it should (I would guess anyway), but no meny appears. I can see the earth in the background, but no landmass, just a big blue sphere.

The ThemeParseLog.txt file shows this log:

I've located the file in question, it's 8,12 KB big. However, it says it was customized before it was created, which is quite strange :/

hi i have a geforce fx 5200 i ahve the same problem, i want to download the newest drivers updates and so fourth but i dont know which one i am downloading from the nvida website. thought i would start with that see if it fixes the problem,

if any one knows of a way to fix the problem let me know, or where to download the drivers.

Is there a definitive answer for this? I get it and can eventually get through it after starting the game several times.

I've got an Athlon X2 3800, Radeon X850XT (Cat 5.10s) and think everything else is up to date driver wise.

I also get the same errors in my parselog file

and that file does not exist. Should it? I'm guessing not since the game sometimes works.

Personally, I copied the same-named file in C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Resource\Civ4\Custom into C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Resource\Civ4\HUD

Don't get the error any more....

Hmm, tried that, no luck. still get the blue screen very often

downloaded update for drivers the other day, worked fine after that. no probs so far, going to upgrade a lot more of my computer now any ways to make it run smoother. otherwise the update was the key :-)

yeah the Cat 5.11s seem to have fixed it for me too although not explicitly mentioned in the release notes.
