  • AI does not react strongly on invasion

I won a space race last night (or I should say this morning )

I won not because I had a tech lead (I am only the 3rd most advanced), but because I sent an army of armors and mechs into French land and removed all the resource connections and blocked their lands from being work on. The French was just one module away to finish the space ship, but that module took them forever to build.

My only resistence was air strikes on my armors and mechs, and half of them were intercepted by my closeby carrier task force. The French had at least 8x number of units horaded in cities across their homeland, but none took the action to drive me back to sea. On the other hand, they attempted a landing invasion with 4 transports full of units to my home island while I was wecking havoc on their home. Of course their fleet never reached the shore before sunking into the deep sea.

I noticed that the AI doesn't seem to escort its troop ships - which is bad.

They also go a little city defender-happy with their military.

They tend to let my pillagers waltz all over with little/no response, preferring to send small stacks at my territory/my real invasion force instead.

And the one that drives me a little nuts is the settler goign escorted by 1-2 defenders through 'unclaimed' territory that used to be the town of theirs I just raised. Only to run into my own settler stack that has 5-6 troops.

I had the Japanese show up on my shores with a large invasion stack, and their galleons were nicely escorted by frigates.
I was invading an island in the east and they showed up from the west and caught me by surprise with no defenses. I had modern units and they showed up with cavalry, catapults and musketmen and grenadiers, so they didn't last very long. But they did manage to take a city from me for a turn or two (with heavy losses of course).

It seems that if the AI is across the ocean, then they love declaring war on me (especially Alexander and Isabella).

AI does escort, but not heavyly. In my case, the 4 transporters were escorted by a battleship and two destroyers, which was very thin compare to my task force stack (1 carrier with 3 jets, 2 battleship, 2 destroyers, 2 subs) and land base stealth bombers.

That's true. The AI must be counting the strength of the transport ships when it builds a task force.
