Impact on State Religion

I started a game ...i m already in 1908
As i read the manual it seems to be interesting to switch early in State Religion.

now... i can not switch anymore ?
I have all sorts of religions in diverse cities but no State religion !
How do i do it ? My screen says , no State religion found ! (The red circle with bar) ..am i to late.

You're probably following the Free Religion civic, which does not allow a state religion.

Yes you'll right ! Is this better than the state R ? Or is State Religion supposed to be better only in early stages ?

It depends. The lack of a state religion has both benefits and non-benefits.

- Is a good part of the other nations part of the state religion that you would become? (State religion = better diplomacy with other nations with same state religion. If you founded the religion, fog of war around all cities with that religon is removed)

- Does your nation have diverse religions, or mostly one religion? (Free Religion benefits from diversity, state religion benefits from most cities having the same religon)

Et cetera. State Religion has its own benefits; I prefer Organized Religion myself (+25% building production in cities with state religion), but the others have its own benefits too (Theocracy is good for waring civs and civs that do not want religious diversity in their countries, Pacifism is good for civs that want a lot of great leaders, but have a small military)
