sorry, was playing on my laptop with 16MB Radeon Mobility 7000.. although I get the black tile problem (which can be solved by revealing the map), at least I can play a full game without freeze

    gonna try this later

Same Problem. Plays fine for early parts of a game but, locks up hard around 1000 BC.

I tried a few of the other fixes, then saw someone suggest setting the display to 1024x768 - this worked for me. I played a small map game with 4 opponents up to 2000 AD before I went to bed.

Occaisionally, the mini-map graphics would corrupt and less frequently, the main map would corrupt (especially on zooming in & out) - I could correct this by Alt-Tabbing to desktop and back.

When I quit the game, it seemed to still be hogging ram because I couldn't do anything on the desktop without rebooting.

It maight be an overheating issue but, I have a hard time believing CIV4 would stress my graphics card much more than BF2 or FEAR.

      AthlonXP 2600 (OC to 3200)
      BFG6800GT (AGP)
      1.5 Gig RAM

when I alt-tab to desk & back, in most cases the HUD of the game is gone and I cannot do anything than go back to windows and kill the Civ process.

it is a heat issue for you because you might have poor airflow (ie your cpu temp going up to 155 F) but from what i've gathered in other threads it's still a game issue.
