  • Is SRTEST and BSTEST?

I have tried to do this little test on my own, and it told me (falsely) that my computer had all the things onboard to run it a notch PAST recommended. So.. I got my friend to do the test and it came up that he could play it above recommended too. Even tho the both of us know very well that his computer cant even play Pirates, and mine can... so this is obvious that the test is a buch of crap or we are doing something wrong.

    This is the 'test-site':
Check your system requirements. Can I Run it? Test your specs and rate your gamimg PC.

What I ask is that you people who are lurking waiting for a patch (as I have been... although I cant play it at all I learned..) please take this test and post the screenshot up here on this thread to answer my bugging question of whether or not this is a BS test.

    Thank you.

(Like I said, I hope we have done something wrong, but in the case that this is just not an accurate test I want it to stop flying around these forums... it tricked me into thinking I had what I needed by saying PASS on everything... so I just want to see if it does the same for all of us)

    What are your system specs?

Your post is rather nebulous and misleading; other people's systems may correctly pass/fail the srtest. In srtest's defense, it does say that the requirements for Civ 4 weren't final.

yeah they were based on Pirates! specs. I failed the recomended having only a 1.2 ghz processor and it works fine for me. What's the problem you're having exactly?

Yes I know that, and as I said, I in no way want to say its a completely false, just in the two instances I have seen it said -the exact same thing- even though the two computers were not of the same capacity. Thats the only reason I even brought this up... in this instance I want to be proven wrong in this. I will post a screen shot of mine in a second, maybe you guys can tell me what I am doing wrong.

Another thing here is that it says you NEED T&L... (which you do) and it says that I PASSED that... but everyone else (the list of T&L supporting cards) tells me that I dont have T&L...

But what is the problem you're having with running the game, is it crashing, choppy, black terrain, not loading at all?

Ah, sorry... yes well the movie is a bit choppy and I have the chesire cat syndrome along with a nice helping of black terrain... but it loads and plays fine (as far as I can tell.. havent been able to play pass those problems yet..)

Heres the reason that SRTEST rubbed me the wrong way, I posted a thread asking for help when that stuff went down. They asked me what my card was and all that, and I told them I had no idea... so someone posted to go there and it would tell me. So I THINK I have a Radeon 9800 IGP 320M 64MB With T&L... but this is only because of the test. Maybe I am reading it wrong, or perhaps it didnt evaluate my machine entirely... but I have no idea... which is why I posted this thread, to figure out why..

If you have a 9800 integrated graphics card then you do infact have TnL. You do not appear to have sufficient video memory on that card.

...ummm.. I am going to need that dumbed down a bit.. and the thing is... i THINK i have a 9800... but I know that i have a 320M (whatever that means)... and the only way I "know" any of that stuff (as I stated in an earlier post) is because of the SRTEST. But I know my friend doesnt have the same specs as me, yet he got the same answers... so I am beginning to think that maybe that thing didnt really tell me what I had...

I am sure by now that you all realize that I am technologically impaired and dont know the difference between whats what and all that jazz...

A 9800 built in though? I've never heard of that- and I thought the 9800 had at least 128 megs of ram?

Anyway, The cheshire Kitten thing is probably a graphics card related issue, but from the sounds of it they will be able to fix the black terrain thing in a patch.

As for the SRTEST, way back when that thing was brought on the boards it was said not to take it as fact. Plus it's not like the thing is sponsored by Poly, Take 2, or Firaxis- it's just a machine test. If nothing else it's trying to get people to buy better systems.

Do you have a reliable source that that black terrain will actually be fixed in a patch, or is that just from general speculation on these boards?

For what it's worth the test did accurately detect the specs of my laptop. So it does work, at least in my case.

this test actually impressed me, it knew ive got my cpu over clocked from 2.1 to 3.2 and that i have .5 mb of ram blown from pushing the oc'ing to far so ive only got 511.5 mb instead of 512.
so ya, its sys test is very acurate as far as looking at whatcha got
