    Desktop gets stuck in 4-bit color

    On my wife's computer, when she exits Civ 4, it puts her desktop into 4-bit color mode. In the Settings Panel for the desktop, 4-bit color mode is the ONLY option. Rebooting corrects this until she plays again and it does it again.

    It apparently only happens after she's been playing for more than 30 minutes. Entering/Exiting the game right away does not cause this to happen. Does this happen to anyone else and if so, do you know of a fix?

    Her specs are:

    AMD 2400+
    Asus A7N8X Deluxe (w/ Forceware (5.10)
    1 GB Corsair RAM
    GeForce 4 4800Ti (w/ Driver 81.85)
    SyncMaster 915N
    Windows XP SP2

    I only experienced this particular bug once and that was after a crash. I don't have any particular suggestion, just wanted to offer you hope that the problem she experienced has happened to other people, has been reported in the largish bug thread, and hopefully will be addressed by the patch.

      This happened to me after I upgraded to the 81.87 driver (adapted for laptop card). I downgraded the driver to one designed specially for Dells (from laptopvideo2go.com) and it stopped doing that.

      It may be the driver.

        Mine's done this once, when exiting to desktop normally.

        Nothing was different about my configuration on the occasion when it crashed, to the many other occasions when it didn't.

        Seems to be an intermittent bug but I have no idea what causes it.

          Had this one once also, when exiting the game normally. Reboot to fix.

          Geforce 5200 card with the latest Nvida drivers.
